wHEre to SLeeP - Hotels

HOTELS in Hanoi are abundance ... we only internet booked the first night upon arrival in Hanoi and as we walked around Hanoi on the first day, there are so many hotels of all types and prices. But for an average of US40 per night, you can find lots especially in the Old Quarters district of Hanoi.

Out first Hotel is called ROYAL HANOI HOTEL located very strategically in Hang Bac street and Cau Go Street corner. Right smack in the " shopping " area and 3 min walk to the Water Puppet Show. Hotel is located just 5 min walk from the Hoan Kiem Lake. The only setback to this hotel is the noise of the construction or renovation of its neighboring lot. It seems the renovation will be done in a month's time (by March 2012)

Another hotel we stayed in  is " ClASSIC STREET HOTEL " , also along Hang Be Street. This hotel is basically Vietnamese decor with Vietnamese antique fiurniture. Room is big and very bright with huge windows. But our toilet is a bit dark and water leaking from the bathtub after every shower.  Room costs US30 per night after 30mins of bargaining.

Exploring around Hoan Kiem District we came across a very quaint artistically decorated boutique hotel named  6 ON SIXTEEN.

in the "6 on SIXTEEN" lobby/cafe.

Unfortunately for us, it is fully booked up for the whole month. At US 78 per room ! But the whole hotel is an art !! We didnt get to see the rooms as they are all occupied. Next visit to Hanoi, we will definitely book a room. Location is a bit further from the hustle bustle shopping streets at Hoan Kiem Lake but it is still walking distance to the lake area. Quiet and a bit hidden from the mainstream.

and in SAPA VILLAGE, we booked into the "BAGUETTE n CHOCOLAT" a 6 roomed boutique hotel, highly recommended by lonely planet and some other travel guides. This hotel is created based on a special project developed to train the youths of the hilltribe in Sapa and Lao Cai. It is a working place for the youths after being being trained in Hoa Sua School ( a school for the Disadvantage Youths in Tourisn field ).
Baguette & Chocolat hotel is located only 5 mins walk to the Sapa Church in the midle of the village.
Our room costs us US30 per night with a portable heater and electric blanket but hot water in bathroom is very unpredictable !

the lobby where everyone gathers around the Fireplace! No central heating, we depend on the firewood to keep us warm. Nice cute decor .

Highly recomended is the HOT CHOCOLATE ! and the Baguette with their home made jam or honey is fantastic !!
